The Wizard of Oz (1939)
An undisputed classic, The Wizard of Oz, has gone down in history as one of the greatest films ever made, and it was based on one of the most beautiful children’s books ever written. One of the starring performers of the film was the Cowardly Lion, played by Bert Lahr.
As his name implies, the Cowardly Lion is quite meek and timid despite his status as a lion and journeys with Dorothy and the others in the hopes of finding some courage. Lahr’s costume for the film was made of real lion skin, and fur and Lahr got extremely hot while wearing it.
