Proud to Be Together?
Looking at Costner and Silva’s marriage from the outside, it seemed as though it was perfect and that the relationship was indestructible. The couple even owned a joint racehorse called “Proudtobetogether,” which made a statement, to say the least. Costner seemed to be a caring, loving, and honest husband – and for a while, there was no reason to think otherwise.

That is, until 1987 when Costner was quoted as saying: “I have a big thirst. A big taste for things … I hate the fact that I’ve lived by somebody else’s rules, and I’ve somehow missed out on something.” Many took this as a not-so-subtle hint that he was not completely happy in his marriage and felt somewhat unsatisfied. Fans were disappointed that it seemed to contradict the straight-shooter image of Costner that they loved.
